take up to 1000 years to decompose. Add to this the
fact that most plastic carrier bags are only
used once or twice before being thrown away
and that over 100,000 birds and other
animals are killed each year by plastic
rubbish and it is easy to see why a practical alternative to the traditional throwaway plastic bag needs to be found.
At Cherished Earth, we began our journey by sourcing quality
jute shopping bags, because jute is considered to be one of the most environmentally-friendly fabrics in the world and quickly biodegrades once it has been disposed of.
We have now added foldable polyester bags to our range, because although polyester takes longer to biodegrade than jute or cotton, these lightweight, attractive bags fold up into small bundles and provide a practical solution for many people.
Most importantly, using one of these bags saves having to use 100 plus plastic carrier bags.
